Sorrento, Positano & Pompeii!

Today is for sharing photos from the last leg of our Italy trip, the south! Nate and I LOVED loved looooved our time in Sorrento. We were there for 3 nights and stayed in an amazing Airbnb right in the heart of the tiny town. Like, if I went out onto the porch, I could look down and watch people walking and shopping. I realized immediately why old Italian women do this all the time. It’s entertaining!

Anyways, we had the best time walking around Sorrento, sitting by the water, window shopping, real shopping, people watching and eating some of the best food of our whole trip. I’m absolutely sure we didn’t, but it sure FELT like we could’ve blended right in with the locals, doing life like they do life. The vibe of Sorrento was so laid back, comfortable and adorable. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

After an amazing dinner of basically all mozzarella cheese (really. it was so amazing.) we heard fireworks and RAN down to the water so we could see what was going on! It was like a huge 4th of July firework show, but on May 1st, and over the water. Really cool! Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0082

We did a day trip to Positano. Guys, riding on a coach bus on those skinny, winding, tiny roads is NO JOKE and if you have any history with motion sickness, take a Dramamine! Guys! I’m not joking! Take the meds!

Health warning aside: Positano was cool. The whole area is like Cinque Terre‘s big brother. Positano sits on massive cliffs just like all the Cinque Terre villages, but it is a MUCH bigger town. More homes, more colors, more tourists. I liked the few hours we were there, though the stairs are no joke! You’re basically always walking either up or down! Kinda crazy actually.

From Sorrento, we did ANOTHER day trip to Pompeii!! Hey hey oh, hey oh! JKJK. My 5th grade self was SO HAPPY to be in Pompeii. I remember reading all the books and just generally being obsessed with Pompeii for like 6 months when I was 11. I don’t know why haha. But it was really cool to actually BE there and see the ruins and see Mount Vesuvius and explore. It was really cool. Did I mention it was cool.Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0087
This was my favorite view. It’s not even Pompeii, but it’s pretty dang gorgeous! I stared for like 12 minutes.

I much prefer the poppies, don’t you agree? I think they are such a nice addition to the scenery. Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0090Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0091

The mighty Mount Vesuvius! Or, what’s left of it. Apparently back before it decided to pummel two towns with volcanic ash, it was twice this size! Science is cool. The earth is cool. I’m done saying cool. Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0092Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0093Sorrento Italy - Stephanie Rita Photography in Sorrento, Italy_0094

If you are looking to visit this area of Italy, definitely stay in Sorrento or Positano! Naples isn’t very pretty, and Rome is a bit too far for a day trip. And from what I saw, Pompeii doesn’t have any houses left.
