Be Anything

March 8, 2016

I’ve had many breakthroughs as well as struggles this year as a small business owner, so I wanted to share a bit. The struggles have been pretty low, but the lessons have been pretty wonderful. The biggest lesson I’m learning is that not all of us are wired to like and/or be good at only one thing. We are not required to pigeon hole ourselves into ‘being’ only one type of person. Do everything. Try everything. Be anything. Do more than one thing. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Don’t be afraid to walk away from a steady job to pursue a scarier-but-more-fulfilling dream. Don’t be afraid to be a lot of things at once. There is no right answer. Do what makes you smile. Do what makes you want to keep doing whatever you’re doing.

If you haven’t yet, I need you to watch this TedxTalk by Emilie Wapnick. She speaks about why some people don’t feel like they have one true calling. From the YouTube description: “Wapnick has inspired thousands of multipotentialites to stop trying to fit themselves into boxes, and embrace their plurality.”

I also loved this School of Greatness Podcast episode featuring musician Lindsey Stirling – she speaks on many topics, including perseverance, making hobbies a career and how she turned rejection into determination. Give it a listen while you’re driving to work tomorrow!
