It’s been a while since I wandered in nature with my camera and no where to be. So after a lovely newborn session last night, at a pretty spot along Hudson’s Assabet River rail trail, I wandered. I could have gone home to make and eat dinner, but existing on this wooded trail for just a while longer felt more necessary to my heart. It was dusky and chilled, and I couldn’t see the sun anymore. I looked to the left and noticed the autumn flowers creating their own color palette on the side of the path. I looked to the right and said hi to the trees who were already getting ready for winter. I let the autumn chill give me nostalgia for other autumn chills I’ve felt before. I wondered how many other people have done what I was doing, or were they always looking forward, on their way to somewhere?
“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.”
“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
— William Cullen Bryant
Let us notice when we are too busy to notice, and stop to let ourselves notice. Autumn color moves quickly. So does life. Don’t miss it.
