Preparing for the Season

November 19, 2013

I have a few sessions in the books for December, and to aid in the preparation and enjoyment of the holiday season, I’ve decided that I won’t be taking any more for the month. This fall has been seriously AMAZING. So full of love and creativity. I’ve taken more photos than any fall before this one. I’ve met many inspiring families and couples, and worked with great photographers in the Boston area. I feel like I’ve learned so much in the last 4 months!

But I’ve been feeling a little distant from other things in life that matter, too. Like getting coffee with friends and participating in church events. Or even just quality time with my husband. Guys, we had to PLAN a Lazy Sunday. Plan it. Like, write in my calendar. It seems like anything “official” must be in my calendar. Which is great, because it means I’ve been a busy little bee, but is busy what it’s all about?

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

I haven’t been doing a great job in the last few months (oh wait, EVER) of being still enough to hear what God has to say. This has been a struggle for me since college. I always have to be doing something. Writing, editing, running, blogging, doodling, emailing, practicing. Which of course are all good things. But they are all noise compared to what God is trying to teach me. What He is trying to say to my little heart. Wait… what HAS he been trying to say?! I don’t know, honestly. I haven’t taken the time to listen in a long time.

And so, with this Christmas season approaching (my FAVORITE season of the year) I want to focus on being in the present. Being still. Taking in the scents, sounds and feelings. Spending quality time with Jesus. With friends. With Nate (aka: not editing while sitting on the couch, but instead JUST sitting on the couch. Together.)

So. That is why I’m keeping my December light with sessions. Nothing against you lovely people, promise. 🙂
