Random Tips to Prepare for Wedding Photos

If you’re getting ready for your upcoming wedding, you have probably already picked an awesome photographer and love their work! But did you know that what you do to prepare can also be a deciding factor on the loveliness of your photos? There are many ways you can help your photographer out, so that they are easily able to create those amazing shots.

Most wedding gowns come on a standard white plastic hanger, which look good, but not the best, in a photo. I suggest asking for or gifting yourself one of the personalized last name hangers or finding a cloth one that matches your wedding color scheme!

Clear your prep room of clutter! Pick one corner of the space where your girls/guys can leave their stuff. You’ll be happier if t-shirts, coffee cups and shoes aren’t in your “getting into the dress” pictures.

Have your girls get into their bridesmaid dresses before you get into your gown. That way, when it’s time for you to get dressed, your ladies will look fabulous and the photos will look more put together! We could also set up a First Bridesmaid Look! 🙂

At your ceremony site: Work with the priest/pastor/rabbi to ensure there won’t be a podium or pedestal in front of you during the ceremony. They aren’t the easiest to maneuver around and sometimes get in the way of important shots (and they take the focus off of you!)

If you and your fiance are planning to sit at a sweetheart table, make sure you can see past the flower arrangement or centerpiece on the table. If you can’t see past it, there’s a good chance your photographer can’t see you, so keep it low! You want pictures of your reactions to the best man’s silly speech, right?

Well before your wedding day, pick a ‘point person’ for your family formals. Someone who knows everyone who should be in each picture, and knows the time/place of the photos! Pictures will go faster and smoother if you aren’t all running around trying to find Uncle Bob!

~*~

And just because I love them: White lights, lanterns or votives give a really nice ambience to your reception space and your photos! Just saying!! 🙂

There you have it! A few random, but useful, tips to help your photographer create the best photos they possibly can! We all thank you in advance. 😉

Having a point person for family photos is so. darn. important. The first wedding I shot didn’t have one and family portrait time was a disaster. It felt like it was my fault (even though it really wasn’t) and it was super stressful! I’m glad I learned that for the second wedding. 🙂
