Why I’m spending 2 weeks away from social media (& April Goals)

March happened and it happened FAST. Holy moly! I had a full month. I tried to fill it with things that mattered to me. Things that would make my life a little happier and worthwhile. Eating healthier, planting some herbs… praying for my 2012 couples during their first year of marriage… hanging out with my cousin Livie! … re-finishing an old desk… finding some new spring flats… studying up for our trip to Scotland! (more on that in a later post), and running almost 50 miles for  half-marathon training. Not to mention two family sessions, two lifestyle sessions, a worship night at church, and meeting/hanging out with 3 awesome Boston photogs.

YEAH. I’d say March was AWESOME.

Yet, now? It’s time for April.

April is going to be full again. Full of photos. Full of date nights. Full of birthdays (ok, only my sister’s, but she’s cool enough to get a shout-out). Full of reading more books and being less connected to the world (two things I failed to do in March).

That being said, here’s the big goal of April:

I’m going to be spending two weeks away from social media. No Facebook, no Twitter, no Instagram, no Pinterest. It’s going to be SO HARD because those things are pretty integrated into my life and are things I truly enjoy. But I’ve also let them sort of… take over. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to sit in the car while Nate is driving and NOT check Facebook. If I’m watching the Voice, I’m also on Twitter checking to see what other people are saying about the show. If I’m doing a DIY project, I’m also posting pictures about it on Instagram… you catch my drift.

It’s pretty simple. I just need to get away from all that, and live my little life withOUT feeling the need to share it with everyone. I want to spend more time doing things that matter and less time talking about how I’m doing these things. Spending more time getting to know Jesus is a big part of this, too!

Things I WILL still be doing: Checking my email! Email is how I communicate with my clients, so naturally I still need to keep those connections! I won’t abandon you! =) There will also be a few blog posts here and there (that I’ve already scheduled) and those will automatically post to FB + Twitter so I don’t have to log on. And I have one engagement shoot next weekend which I will post a sneak peek onto FB for the couple. Other than that? Nada. Perfecto.

Another goal of April is to be the BEST cheerer-on-er at the Boston Marathon on April 15th! I have a few internet friends running it (weird, but true), so I’m excited to encourage them. The race goes through Wellesley‘s little downtown, which is a 1 minute walk from our apartment, so I’m pretty lucky to be right in the heart of it! Did you know Marathon Monday is literally a holiday in this area? Kids and most adults get a day off! To watch people run! Love it.

What are your April goals? Care to share?

~Stephanie
